Nachiyar (Tamil: இராணி வேலு நாச்சியார்) was an 18th-century Indian Queen from Sivaganga. Rani Velu Nachiyar is the first Queen of Tamil Origin to
fight against the British in India. She was the first woman who fight against
british for freedom before rani

Her life
She was the princess of
Ramanathapuram and the daughter of Chellamuthu Sethupathy. She married the king
of Siva Gangai and they had a daughter - Vellachi Nachiar. When her husband
Muthuvaduganathaperiya udaiyathevar was killed, she was drawn into battle. Her
husband killed by a British colonel Bonjour with 300 soldiers. She escaped with
her daughter, lived under the protection of Hyder
Ali at Virupachi near Dindigul for eight years. Velu Nachiyar is the first queen who
fought for the freedom against British in India and succeeded. The praiseworthy
queen of our Tamil Land “Brave Mother Velu Naachchiyaar”!! The first brave
Indian woman who opposed the British rule! A more familiar Jhansi Rani of whom
we are aware, is nothing but a misinterpreted history narrated to us by the
British to suit their convenience! Unfortunately, Jhansi Rani lost the war
waged against the British! In the history of India’s struggle for independence,
the only queen who made the British bow down was the Brave Mother Velu
Naachchiyaar! This is history under wraps! But proofs stand testimony right in
front of our eyes! Wake up! After unearthing evidences from the sands of
history, and meticulously verifying them, we are about to showcase the
greatness of Velu Naachchiyaar! Veerapandia Kattabomman, V.O.C., Marudhu
Brothers, Bhagat Singh, Kumaran; there are countless names; who laid their
lives on account of Britishers treachery! But history has it that in a strange,
mysterious and path breaking manner, our own Velu Naachchiyaar had given the
British, a run for their lives!
And subsequently had ensured a
peaceful rule for a long period! 1730 saw the birth of the Brave Mother Velu
Naachchiyaar!! Approximately 300 years ago… English and French included, she
knew 6 languages! For the first time in history, Velu Naachchiyaar formed an
exclusive army of only women! [ Udayal Padai ] Velu Naachchiyaar is also the
first to have introduced the Guerrilla Warfare! [ KooraaL Padai ] First to
Introduced Human Bomb [ Kuyili ] She encouraged and developed Tamil literature,
music, drama and arts! Surpassing the boundaries of caste, creed and religion,
she portrayed herself as emperor Hyder Ali’s sister! She made Colonel Banjour
realise that he, being born a Christian and following the benevolent and
merciful Lord Jesus Christ’s teachings, it wasn’t fair on his part to murder
justice! She saved her people like a mother! Moreover, she stood like a giant
and redeemed her Tamil soil! With unique arms and ammunitions, she kept the
British army at bay! Even after her husband, the King of Sivagangai was killed
by the enemy, she maintained unimaginable composure; with undeterred determination!
On 31-December-2008, a commemorative postage stamp on her was released.
